Even though the candidate he supported won the presidential election, it has been a tough past few weeks for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Shortly after Donald Trump’s shocking victory, Christie was booted as chairman of the transition team, apparently over issues with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. (Or because he photobombed Trump on Election Night…take your pick.)
Since then, Christie’s chances of serving in a position in Trump’s administration have faded. Christie himself has publicly stated that he intends to serve out the remainder of his term as governor.
However, it now seems that he’s jockeying for a job in Republican leadership, one that has a recent vacancy. According to Politico, the New Jersey guv would like to be the RNC chair.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is expressing interest in the job of Republican National Committee chairman.
Christie told senior members of Donald Trump’s presidential transition team on Thursday morning that he is interested in the post, according to three sources familiar with the talks.
The position needs to be filled because Reince Priebus recently accepted the position of Trump’s Chief of Staff. Per Politico, spokespeople for Trump and Christie have not responded for comment.
