Well, this is awesome. Deadline has reported that the live action Sony Pictures film Barbie will have Amy Schumer in its title role. The movie is set to begin production this Spring and should be released in the Summer of 2018. Hillary Winston wrote the script, and Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele are doing a re-write. If you’re expecting Trainwreck 2, however, think again. The movie will be rated PG.
In the film, Schumer’s character lives in Barbieland, but gets kicked out due to her imperfections. She’s forced to live in the real world and learns to embrace her imperfections, learning along the way that it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Barbie then returns home to save Barbieland.
It’s a pretty perfect storyline for Schumer, who has become an advocate for women and female empowerment over the course of the last few years. It’s also going to be hilarious- even if it can’t be as raunchy as we’re used to seeing from her.
