The revelation that one-time harsh Trump critic Mitt Romney is one of President-elect Donald Trump’s final choices for Secretary of State hasn’t exactly sit well with some of Trump’s loyalists.
Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway spent last Sunday railing against Romney on the Sunday shows, making her displeasure for the former presidential nominee loudly heard. Another Trump adviser who has publicly rebuked Romney during this period of time has been Newt Gingrich.
During a conversation with radio host Laura Ingraham, the Trump Transition Vice Chair viciously mocked Romney, invoking the movie Pretty Woman to make an observation about how hard Romney has been “sucking up” to Trump lately.
While speaking to Face the Nation’s John Dickerson today, Gingrich took a much more diplomatic and accepting approach to the possibility of Romney as SoS.
“I’m very comfortable given the amount of time he’s put into this,” Gingrich said. “If President-elect Trump says ‘I want Romney,’ I’m for Romney.”
He would then repeat that sentiment, stating that if Trump “concludes Romney can do the job, then I’m for Romney.”
