Nancy Pelosi has been accused of many things, viciousness, spitefulness, lack of integrity, strategic myopia, etc., but she has never ever been accused of being smart. The reason for that was on display today on Face the Nation when she was asked a pointed question by John Dickerson:
DICKERSON: The Democratic Party is in a moment of questioning about its identity. You were reelected to lead the Democrats in the House. What do you tell Democrats who want a new direction? And then go to you. What are you going to do differently?
PELOSI: Well, I don’t think that people want a new direction. Our values unify us.
And our values are about supporting America’s working families. That’s one that everyone is in agreement on. What we want is a better connection of our message to working families in our country.
And that clearly in the election showed that that message wasn’t coming through. But we are united in terms of the security of our country, which is our first responsibility, to be smart and strong and not reckless in how we protect the American people, strong in how we protect our economy.
DICKERSON: Here’s my question, though. Democrats — since 2008, the numbers are ghastly for Democrats. In the Senate, Democrats are down 10 percent, in the House, down 19.3 percent, and in governors, 35 percent. The Democrats are getting clobbered at every level over multiple elections. That seems like a real crisis for the party.
PELOSI: Well, you’re forgetting that we were up 50 seats. We went up so high in 2006 and 2008. And let me just put that in perspective.
When President Clinton was elected, Republicans came in big in the next election. When President Bush was president, we came in big in the next election — in subsequent elections. When President Obama became president, the Republicans came in big in the next election.
This is little short of stunning. There is virtually no Democrat, other than the morons on the Clinton campaign, who doesn’t realize something is simply not working. About a third of Pelosi’s diminished and irrelevant caucus opted for someone else, but, as we saw with the Clinton nomination, Democrats are infatuated with the idea of falling blindly into line behind whoever is supposed to be their leader. Pelosi is saying that after eight years of Obama yammering on, day in and day out, about all the good stuff that the Democrats were doing that communications was the problem, not policies.
The second problem is that she’s a moron who has apparently been in a coma for decades. Just because Pelosi doesn’t know what happened to the Democrats in the House doesn’t mean no one else does:
At it’s high water mark in Obama’s first term the Democrat Caucus was at a level not seen by a Democrat majority since Ronald Reagan’s first mid-term. And contrary to the nonsense she spouted about how the Democrats came back under Bush just like the Republicans came back under Obama, George Bush actually saw the GOP House caucus gain seats at his first mid-term and at his re-election.
I’m happy Pelosi believes this malarky. I suppose when you get too much plastic surgery and too many botox injections that your mental capacity starts to rot away. And the longer she stays in charge of the House Democrats the more elections they will lose.
