The Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly have a contract to stay at Donald Trump‘s SoHo when they visit New York. But LeBron James and several of his teammates are splitting from the rest of the team to stay elsewhere.
ESPN reports that James and several other Cavs asked for and received permission to find alternate lodging this week while the team is in New York to play the Knicks.
The three-time NBA champion endorsed Hillary Clinton in the Presidential race — penning an endorsement for her and even appearing at one of her rallies. He has refused to commit to attend a Trump-emceed White House ceremony, should the reigning titlists successfully defend their crown in June.
It is not clear who is joining James in ditching the Trump SoHo. But teammate Iman Shumpert told Complex last week that he would not visit the White House during Trump’s presidency.
“I understand people’s stance on Trump,” Shumpert said. “I can’t get caught up in the racial, sexist bullshit he’s got going on.” That’s his personal thing, ya dig?…I do think he’s crazy — straight-up.”
