President Obama delivered the final national security speech of his presidency to service members at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa today, and he took a few minutes to talk about the greatness of American values.
He talked at length about the fight against terrorism before saying that such a fight cannot push America to “stigmatize good patriotic Muslims.” The president said we can’t “act like this is a war between the United States and Islam.”
Obama also specifically said that American freedoms we can’t take for granted include “the universal right to speak your mind and protest against authority, to live in a society that’s open and free, that can criticize a president without retribution.”
He affirmed that the United States continues to be a beacon for other nations in the world.
