By most counts, Rihanna was pretty successful this year in terms of Grammy nominations. She was nominated for eight awards in total, including record of the year for her song “Work,” but she was not nominated in the Album of the Year category. Beyoncé, on the other hand, was- for Lemonade.
Yesterday, Rihanna liked a post on a fan’s page of a photo, the caption of which said “Congrats and all to @badgalriri…but tbh f*ck them because they snubbed her for Song of the Year and Album of the Year.” The lemon emoji seems to indicate that the Instagram user is upset because Beyoncé did get those nominations.
This sparked rumors that Rihanna was upset and throwing shade at Beyoncé. The “Work” singer commented on the picture, saying:
I never actually read your caption, thought the pic was funny and moved right along! Til I seen it pop up over and over! I’m petty af, yes. But this is just unnecessary! I wish y’all would drop this topic and see things from the bigger picture! We don’t need to be putting black women against each other! We deserve to be celebrated, and the Grammy Academy agrees!
No feud there. Everyone can calm down now.
