The Masters begins in earnest on Thursday. But on Wednesday, after a full week of preparations, the golfers let their hair down a bit and have some fun in the annual par-3 contest.

Like the entire week at Augusta National, the par-3 contest will have something of a pall cast over it without the presence of golf legend Arnold Palmer. Until recently, Palmer participated in the annual tradition, competing alongside rivals and fellow legends Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.

The Golden Bear and Player will still be out there, and so will many current stars like Phil Mickelson. But don’t be surprised if the players who are teeing it up in the real tournament don’t give the par-3 their best effort. No one who has ever won the par-3 contest has gone on to win the green jacket in the same week.

Coverage begins at 3:00 pm ET on ESPN. The Masters website will have a live stream of the contest from 3:00-5:00 pm. The event will also stream on the Watch ESPN platform, but only cable subscribers can access that feed.
