One of the wildest news weeks in recent memory (and doesn’t it seem like we’re saying that with more frequency these days), continued with the Friday afternoon report from The New York Times that President Donald Trump told the Russians that the “pressure” would be off with the firing of FBI Director James Comey.
Twitter has, evidently, not yet become anesthetized to major breaking news. Here’s what politicians, journalists, and others had to say about Friday’s new report:

Has Trump landed yet?

The president’s offenses are so brazen that they almost seem normal. They aren’t, and he must account for them. https://t.co/JfYBRmsQC0

Think about this: Trump gave the Russians the straight story about Comey’s firing but not us Americans.

Obstruction of Justice/Abuse of Power case against Trump gets stronger every day. Patriot or CROOK? https://t.co/uiLC2HfxfG

Sorry for yelling guys. BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS S@#%SHOW THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO TAKE AWAY YOUR HEALTHCARE AND RUIN THE INTERNET.

Many in social media invoked the specific words “nut job,” which is how––per the Times––Trump described Comey in that meeting. As a result, “nut job” promptly trended on Twitter:

Lindsay Graham: “A nut job”
Glenn Beck: “A real nut job”
Bernie: “A total nut job”
Kim Jong Un: “Could be a total nut job”

MON: Trump divulged info to Russian officials?
WED: Special Counsel appointed
FRI: Trump called Comey a ‘Nut Job’
— Frank Thorp V (@frankthorp) May 19, 2017
Takes a special kind of POTUS to brag to the Russians about firing his FBI director because the “nut job” was on his ass about…Russians.
— John Schindler (@20committee) May 19, 2017
Trump calling Comey a “real nut job” to the Russians is crazy, but the most significant part of this story is him saying the pressure’s off.
— John Ziegler (@Zigmanfreud) May 19, 2017
Trump calling someone a nut job is like Anthony Weiner calling someone a pervert.

'Nutjob' is our number 2 lookup right now. https://t.co/bpGxeCtpSr
