Star Trek superstar George Takei is getting a harsh lesson about how its typically not very good form to kick a man while he’s down, especially when that man is Steve Scalise.
Takei is a prominent liberal figure and a member of the LGBT community, and he decided to offer some pointed thoughts this weekend about the Louisiana Republican congressman. Takei sent out these tweets while Scalise is still in the hospital, recovering from the gunshot wounds he suffered after he and his colleagues came under attack as they practiced for the Congressional Baseball Game:
The universe doesn't joke around. The officer who saved bigoted, homophobic Rep. Steve Scalise during baseball practice was a black lesbian.

The second tweet has now been deleted. Despite the point Takei was making about Scalise and Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner, there were a lot of people who really didn’t appreciate this kind of shot at Scalise:
Takei proves the motivation behind violence: if they don't think you're just wrong, but evil, then all acts are permitted. https://t.co/asQ4nU8Exl

George, let's do more to bring people together, instead of looking for opportunities to drive people apart.

And yet you're the one who comes off as the ass here.

He's fighting for his life right now. What is wrong with you? Until he's out of ICU, why don't you take it up with the Pope. https://t.co/UzmTbjn87N

Scalise’s office announced today that he is showing further signs of improvements as he continues to recover.
