The joint decision to reject the Better Care Reconciliation Act means it does not possess the votes necessary to pass through the Senate.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell suspended the Senate’s August recess in order to launch a final push to clear the new health care act through the Senate. Various Republican senators have expressed concern about the bill, and the vote for its approval was delayed while Senator John McCain recovers from surgery.
