Stunning footage has surfaced of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews that appears to show him asking for a “Bill Cosby pill” before interviewing Hillary Clinton.
The footage, unearthed by The Cut, shows Matthews preparing to interview Clinton during the presidential campaign in late 2016.
“Can I have some of the queen’s waters? Precious waters?” he innocently jokes, before diving in. “Where’s that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?”
The footage ends with Matthews looking pleased with the witticism he unleashed on his staff.
Cosby, you may remember, has been accused of sexual assault by dozens of women.
The MSNBC anchor has apologized for making the crude joke, placing some of the blame on the “Cosby-fever” that was sweeping the nation way back in 2016.
“This was a terrible comment I made in poor taste during the height of the Bill Cosby headlines,” Matthews said. “I realize that’s no excuse. I deeply regret it and I’m sorry.”
Matthews has long been known to have a combative relationship with former candidate Clinton. That same month, he said on his show that he “never heard her come out against these stupid wars.”
He also said, in 2015 upon hearing a rumor that she might quit the race, “when Hillary Clinton quits this election, we’ll shut down the show.”
Back in 2008, he also pinched Clinton’s cheek after conducting an interview with her, saying afterwards that he was “not obsessed” with the former First Lady.
Throughout the years, he has also called her “witchy,” “anti-male” and “uppity,” while referring to her laugh as a “cackle.”
