CNN’s Chris Cuomo battled it out with Rep. Jim Jordan on Wednesday, over the competing Republican and Democrat memos on the FBI’s Russia investigation put together by lawmakers.
Ever since the Republican memo, put together by Rep. Devin Nunes, was released and alleged bias at the highest levels of the FBI against President Donald Trump, Democrats have been working to release their own counter-memo.
Cuomo first pressed Jordan on the latest in the expanding controversy roiling the White House over its handling of domestic abuse allegations made against Rob Porter, noting the senior official presented classified information to the president.
The Ohio Republican took that opportunity to call out the FBI for its alleged FISA court abuses, which ended up being the focus of the rest of the raucous interview.
“But, Chris, to compare it to the FBI doing what they did, taking a campaign document, dressing it all up as legitimate intelligence and presenting it to a FISA court, a secret court to get a secret court to spy” Jordan said.
“You don’t know that’s what happened,” Cuomo shot back, before arguing “you do not know what happened in that FISA application. You keep calling it secret court which is not fair to the American people.”
The two sparred vigorously about whether or not the FBI abused its power over the course of the investigation into the Trump campaign, as well as over whether the Democrat’s memo is being released under the same standards as the Nunes memo.
Eventually, Jordan brought up the anti-Trump texts exchanged between FBI agents Lisa Page and Peter Strzok — which makes the foundation for many of Republicans’ claims that there is scandalous bias at the bureau — exclaiming “the fix was in!”
