More than a week after Rob Porter resigned from the White House, President Trump has finally offered a statement with his thoughts on domestic violence.
Trump allowed the White House press corps to attend his latest meeting in the Oval Office, and as the press was dismissed from the room, reporters shouted questions at him over the abuse scandal surrounding Porter and Chief of Staff John Kelly. Trump has declined to say anything publicly about the scandal in the last few days (despite multiple on-camera opportunities), but today, he said this:
“I am totally opposed to domestic violence of any kind, and everybody here knows that. I’m totally opposed to domestic violence of any kind. Everyone knows that. And it almost wouldn’t even have to be said. So, now you hear it, but you all know it.”
Trump did not explicitly express support for the women claiming to have been abused by Porter, who Trump spoke highly of when the scandal broke and Porter was on his way out of the Administration.
