Wednesday night on OutFront, CNN presented a harrowing eyewitness account of the Parkland, FL school shooting — in which at least 17 people are reported to have died.
Speaking with anchor Jim Sciutto, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Masiel Baluja described the scene as she fled to safety.
“I was on the top floor,” Baluja said. “Right below me on the first floor, I heard shooting and I saw two guys running. I wasn’t sure what it was. And then I heard it again. That’s when me and a group of people ran downstairs, and I could tell [the shooter] was on my left side because that’s where I heard the gunshots from, and it was very loud. And then I went to make a right, and I just ran.”
Baluja broke down at several points during the interview. But she continued to give her account.
“My mom was across the street trying to get me, but the cops had us on the floor for about 20 minutes,” she said. “And my mom was just waiting for me. And I was with a group of kids. And I didn’t know. I didn’t know if any of them were shooters or not. So I felt very uncomfortable because anybody could be a shooter.”
