Conor Lamb, who NBC News declared the “apparent winner” of Pennsylvania’s special House election on Wednesday morning, appeared on CNN to discuss the nail-biting race.
And New Day host Alisyn Camerota asked the Democratic candidate about President Donald Trump’s contention that he is “better looking than him.”
“Lamb the sham,” Trump dubbed the Democrat at his weekend rally in Pennsylvania in support of the GOP candidate in the race, Rick Saccone.
“I hear he’s nice looking, I think I’m better looking than him,” Trump said.
After playing a clip of those comments for Lamb, Camerota asked why he thought “Lamb the sham didn’t take hold?”
“I mean, I don’t know,” Lamb replied. “Apart from that there was a lot of foolishness in this election and a lot of really cartoonish campaigning.”
“By the time of the President’s visit last weekend, people were kind of tired of that entire approach,” said the candidate, who has largely avoided criticizing the president during his campaign in a district Trump carried by 20 points in 2016.
“And do you think the president is better looking than you?” Camerota asked.
“I really have no opinion on that one,” Lamb replied after a chuckle.
“Hmm,” Camerota replied. “Strange.”
