Former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg appeared on CNN’s New Day a week after his whirlwind media tour that concluded with him testifying before a grand jury in the Russia investigation.
Nunberg dished to CNN’s Alisyn Camerota about the investigation into his former boss, President Donald Trump, as well as his mentor, Roger Stone — claiming he warned Stone against associating himself with Wikileaks.
At the end of the interview, Camerota asked the former Trump aide about “Sam-apalooza,” referring to his insane cable news blitz that kicked off with him announcing his intentions to defy special counsel Robert Mueller’s subpoena, and ended with many questioning his mental health and wellbeing.
“By the way, we beat Fox News in every single — we beat Fox News that hour,” Nunberg boasted to Camerota. “In total and demo!”
“So you’re watching the ratings!” Camerota exclaimed. “Thinking that Sam Nunberg is a big draw and it sounds like you are.”
It’s unclear which hour of CNN Nunberg was referring to, but he later made reference to Erin Burnett’s show — the one in which the CNN host asked if he was drunk, and said she smelt alcohol on his breath.
“I thought it was great TV, and I thank Erin for the interview,” he said.
As far as Nunberg’s ratings claims go, he’s half right: Burnett’s interview with him on her 7 p.m. show bested Fox News (as well as MSNBC) in the coveted 25-54 demographic, but fell behind Fox in total viewers
In the demo Erin Burnett OutFront nabbed 473k viewers, while Fox News’s The Story with Martha MacCallum notched 380k and MSNBC’s Chris Matthews 434k. In total viewers, MacCallum nabbed 2.028 million to Burnett’s 1.236.
