Roseanne Barr held for the President of the United States yesterday as he called to congratulate her on her show reboot’s success, the comedy star told Good Morning America Thursday by phone as she was headed to the airport.
In what she called a “private conversation” between her and longtime friend President Donald Trump, the two chatted about “working and television and ratings.”
“We talked about a lot of things and he’s just happy for me,” she said. “I’ve known him for many years and he’s done a lot of nice things for me over the years.”
When George Stephanopoulos asked Roseanne whether she thought that the kind of discourse on her show was missing from other television programming today, she responded in the affirmative.
“The idea that people can agree to disagree is kind of missing from everything,” she said. “I really hope that it opens up civil conversation between people instead of just mudslinging.”
The debut episode of the Roseanne reboot exploded on social media and had excellent ratings. It explored gender identity issues, political differences between family members, and insurance struggles, among other hot-button topics.
“We always like to be current, you know, talk about the things that are happening in our country,” Roseanne said. “We always have on our show.”
