If there is any doubt whatsoever that the Republican National Committee is now President Donald Trump‘s, a new RNC-funded website ought to vanquish any notions to the contrary.
A new report out Thursday from CNN outlined the RNC’s strategy to combat former FBI Director James Comey‘s forthcoming media blitz — which opens with a primetime Sunday night interview on ABC conducted by George Stephanopoulos. That plan centers around branding the former FBI chief as “Lyin’ Comey.”
And any decent branding effort, in 2018, has to involve a website, doesn’t it? Enter LyinComey.com — an actual site built around trying to cast aspersions on the former director. The site features various rebuttals of anticipated Comey attacks — including the RNC’s apparent belief that Comey will assert Trump obstructed the Russia probe.
In a statement to CNN, RNC chair Ronna McDaniel defended the party’s tactics.
“Comey is a liar and a leaker and his misconduct led both Republicans and Democrats to call for his firing,” she said. “If Comey wants the spotlight back on him, we’ll make sure the American people understand why he has no one but himself to blame for his complete lack of credibility.”
