During an appearance on CBS News’ Face the Nation, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley declined to comment on President Donald Trump’s recent attacks on the FBI and former FBI Director James Comey, stating that she has been too busy dealing with foreign policy to pay attention to the president’s comments.
“The president called the FBI raid on his personal attorney’s home an attack on our country in a true sense,” CBS host Margaret Brennan asked. “Fired off a number of tweets about the fired FBI director calling him a slimeball, suggesting he should be jailed. What is the president’s state of mind?”
Haley noted that she has spoken to the president several times in recent days and that Trump has been very focused on Syria and the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime. This caused Brennan to press again on Trump calling the Cohen raid an “attack on our country,” asking Haley if it was right for the president to say that.
“First of all I have been drowning in all things Syria, North Korea and Iran,” Haley replied. “So I can’t — I’m sorry, I don’t have enough information on anything related to Comey or all of those things.”
She continued, “I just — I haven’t watched TV to watch that. I’ve been very focused on foreign policy. I think the president’s been focused on foreign policy from the meetings I have been in. So I can only talk about those issues.”
