Stephen Colbert was very giddy over the news that Sean Hannity was Michael Cohen‘s recently disclosed client.
During a court hearing, Cohen was ordered by a judge to reveal this third client who up until that point remained anonymous. And let’s just say, Colbert couldn’t contain his excitement about the big reveal.
After making himself perhaps too comfortable on a leather chair while sipping a celebratory glass of red wine, Colbert began by addressing an old pal of his.
“Jon Stewart, after the show, I’m gonna come over and we’re just gonna spoon! Just spoon!” Colbert said to his former colleague with glee. “This is CRAZY! Cohen only has two other clients and all he does for them is pay off mistresses! Which raises the obvious question, who does Sean Hannity have sex with? Now we don’t know, and I can’t prove this, but I think it’s that football he’s always holding!”
The Late Show host insisted that it “doesn’t matter” what Cohen did for Hannity but that Hannity is “out there everyday” defending Cohen and President Trump and played a couple of clips of his lashing out at the media in their defense.
“I’ve got to agree with Sean on this one, the media is spinning out of control,” Colbert reacted. “Did you hear about this guy on Fox News who’s defending Cohen without revealing that it’s his lawyer too? That’s crazy!…. That’s a pretty big detail to leave out, Sean!”
Colbert then wondered if Hannity didn’t tell Fox News about his “massive conflict of interest” or if he did and they “just ignored it.”
“I’m gonna go with the first one because I know Sean Hannity and delivering factual information is not his strong suit,” Colbert quipped.
He then expressed that he “pities” Hannity because perhaps he wasn’t being a “reflexive propagandist for a corrupt regime” but that he was “trying to protect himself” while defending Cohen and Trump.
