Morning Joe covered the revelation that Sean Hannity is Michael Cohen’s mysterious third client with jubilation on Tuesday, spending the first few segments of the show taking the Fox News host to task.
MSNBC’s John Heilemann, who attended Cohen’s circus-like court hearing on Monday — which featured Stormy Daniels, her lawyer Michael Avenatti, and the surprise Hannity twist — explained how hard Cohen’s lawyers tried to keep the name of the third client secret.
“Here by the way is how the Sean Hannity disclosure played out live yesterday on Fox News,” Willie Geist said next, playing a clip of a network reporter dropping Hannity’s name, before quickly saying, “so moving on…”
Fox News anchor Shepard Smith was also live to cover the news, which he referred to as the “elephant in the room” on his show on Monday (he and Hannity have something of a testy relationship…)
“Wow so the reporter wanted to move on quickly,” Mika Brzezinski remarked.
“Shep did not want to,” Joe Scarborough quipped.
“My god, how awkward,” Brzezinski added.
Hannity addressed the controversy at the close of his show Monday night.
“Let me set the record straight, here’s the truth: Michael Cohen never represented me in any legal matter,” Hannity said. “I never retained his services. I never received an invoice. I never paid Michael Cohen for legal fees. I did have occasional, brief conversations with Michael Cohen, this great attorney, about legal questions I had.
