The View‘s Joy Behar, on Thursday — just two days ahead of the wedding for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — called the British royal family the “biggest welfare family in the world.”
Amid the speculation about who will walk Markle down the aisle at Windsor Castle following the news that the father of the bride will not attend, the ladies of The View — like just about everyone else in the world — weighed in on the drama surrounding the royal event.
“Weddings don’t bring the best out in families all the time,” co-host Sara Haines said.
“Why not? Isn’t it supposed to be a good time?” Whoopi Goldberg asked.
“It’s a high stress situation, kind of like a holiday can bring out some crappy sides as well,” Haines replied.
Co-host Sonny Hostin then opined on the situation, noting that Markle’s relatives who seem to be causing the most problems are not even close to the soon-to-be princess.
“There are siblings she is not close to, and I guess her one sibling sort of discussed with her father and got her father to take these staged Paparazzi pictures and so this whole thing has gotten muddled up with people that don’t really know Meghan Markle,” Hostin said.
Behar had a less sympathetic take regarding the royal family: “You know what? This is the biggest welfare family in the world. I have a little trouble-”
“The Royals?” Hostin said, interjecting. “No…”
“I just feel bad for her,” co-host Meghan McCain added.
