Democratic Rep. Defends Pelosi After Trump Tweet: She’s a ‘Legislative Mastermind’

On Friday, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) defended House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) shortly after President Donald Trump sent a tweet trolling Pelosi and the Dems.

“Democrats, please do not distance yourselves from Nancy Pelosi,” Trump wrote. “She is a wonderful person whose ideas & policies may be bad, but who should definitely be given a 4th chance. She is trying very hard & has every right to take down the Democrat Party if she has veered too far left!”

Noting that Republicans are using Pelosi as a weapon in the midterms, guest host Jim Acosta asked Jeffries, “Would you support Nancy Pelosi for another term?”

Jeffries replied, “Nancy Pelosi led us into the majority… back in 2006 and I think he’s on the cusp along with the entire Democratic Caucus of doing that again.”

Then, when asked specifically about Trump’s tweet, Jeffries called Pelosi a “legislative mastermind.”

“She’s done a tremendous job,” he continued. “We’re going to be united and focused on delivering for the American people as we move forward––lower health care costs, increased pay, we’re in the midst of wage stagnation right now, we don’t have an unemployment problem, thank you Barack Obama, but we do have an underemployment problem.”

He then concluded, “We’re not going to take the bait.”
