Melania Trump’s Immigration Lawyer Criticizes POTUS for ‘Unconscionable’ Immigration Claims

CNN’s Erin Burnett spoke with the immigration lawyer representing Melania Trump and her parents, who became U.S. citizens this week.

But as Burnett noted, they got their citizenship because of what President Donald Trump himself derides as “chain migration.”

Attorney Michael Wildes told Burnett, “Melania Trump is not President of the United States. She’s married to the President of the United States, and, yes, years ago she began the process as an American citizen following millions of others in trying to bring her parents to the United States.”

Burnett noted Trump’s very outspoken views on immigration––this issue in particular––and played multiple clips of him saying so.

This is how the First Lady’s attorney responded:

“Well, tell us how you think, Mr. President. Let me take off one hat as the First Lady’s immigration lawyer and her family and put on my own personal hat. It’s unconscionable to scare people into believing that. You cannot bring nephews. You cannot bring nieces or uncles. You can’t bring 32 people here… This whole notion of chain migration actually is a beautiful bedrock of immigration law and policy called family reunification.”

Burnett noted how the First Lady’s attorney is going on CNN of all places. Wildes, a Democrat, said that Melania Trump definitely knows his background and that he was going on CNN tonight.

Wildes criticized Trump a few weeks ago on the subject of child separation.
